The Ultimate Analog Synthesizer. The fully programmable Oberheim OB Mx brings
all the power and glory of the analog synthesizer to new levels of stability
and reliability via the use of modern components and technology. Fully decked
out with up to the minute MlDl implementation, the OB Mx is the analog synth
for the '90s and beyond.
The OB Mx is shipped as a two voice unit, and is easily upgraded with user
installed Two Voice
Cards to a maximum of twelve voices. Each OB Mx
voice features: 2 Voltage Controlled Oscillators, 3 Low Frequency Oscillators,
4 Envelope Generators, The Classic Oberheim Voltage Controlled Filter, The
Classic Mini-Moog Voltage Controlled Filter (as a bonus, both Filters are
self oscillating and track over eight full octaves!), a Final Mix Module
using the Oberheim S.E.M. Filtering, plus Portamento, Sample and Hold, FM,
oscillator Sync and much, much more. It is this unique combination of filters,
combined with an abundance of envelope generators and LFOs that allow the
OB Mx to create virtually any sound in the analog palette.
Memory is provided for 128 user defined sounds, and 128 sounds are in permanent
memory from the factory. Additionally, 128 user memories are provided for
Multi-Sound Programs, as well as 128 factory Multi-Sound Programs.
The front panel of the OB Mx is always live. Grab a knob, twist it, and
the unit responds. Real-time control over every element of sound creation
offers a level of expression not available on any other synthesizer. Each
outlined area on the front panel represents an individual synthesizer "Module".
Each Module is equipped with a select button that displays every parameter
in the generous 23 Line x 40 Character Backlit display. All settings are
displayed in Hz, milliseconds, half-steps, percentages, or other relevant
increments. Even the LFO wave shapes are displayed graphically.
Extensive MlDl implementation supports System Exclusive for saving and loading
OB Mx patch data. Every knob on the front panel can be controlled via real
time MIDI, either in performance or from a sequencer. The Oberheim "Matrix
Modulation" section provides "Software Patch Cords" that
allow Modules to be connected together for extensive modulation effects.
Various Key Assign modes allow Voices to be stacked up for a sound as "fat"
as you desire. and will also control voice allocation and envelope re-triggering.
Programmable Tuning Tables allow the OB Mx to expand beyond traditional
western 12-tone tunings. Each and every key is assigned its own pitch and
deviation from that pitch.
The back panel features Left and Right Stereo Outputs, as well as an individual
output for each voice. These individual Outputs are T/R/S insertion jacks
that permit each voice to be processed individually, and still appear in
the stereo mix.
As a Multi Timbral unit, the OB Mx can play six different parts simultaneously.
Each part can be programmed for a particular Zone, MlDl Channel, Bender
Range, Transpose, Key Assign Mode, Tuning Table, Pan amount, Attenuation
and Volume.
With a legacy as old as the industry, the OB Mx incorporates three of the
top names in analog synthesis. Oberheim brings over twenty years of design
innovation and technical leadership to the OB Mx. Add to that the original
Mini Moog "ladder" filter circuit. and a design team headed by
synthesizer visionary Don Buchla, and the OB Mx is sure to please anyone
who has a fondness for the warmth and fullness of an analog synthesizer.
